Fatal car accident in Raleigh prompts criminal charges

Earlier this month a young woman who was helping a friend was killed when a vehicle struck both her and her friend as they worked to fill the friend's vehicle with gas from a can she brought to the Raleigh area scene. The incident occurred in the evening on Interstate 540.

The 25-year-old woman who died had been called to the scene by her friend when his car ran out of gas. When she got the call she filled a gas can and took a cab to where his vehicle was stalled. The incident occurred as the 55-year-old driver of the other vehicle merged from Six Forks Road on to I-540. Authorities investigating the scene said that in addition to striking the people, the driver clipped the rear of the stalled car. The driver said he did not see the stalled vehicle or the people attending to it in the dark. The woman's friend was injured, but survived the incident.

The young woman was mother to a 6-year-old girl who will undoubtedly miss her mother greatly as she grows up. While there is nothing that can be done to undo this tragic accident, and nothing can possibly replace a devoted mother, it is possible that the girl could receive financial assistance as a result of the crash. This could happen if a wrongful death lawsuit is filed in her mother’s death. The woman’s friend who was hurt could file a personal injury lawsuit as well.

Regardless of whether civil lawsuits are filed against the man responsible for the death, he is being held responsible in criminal court. He was recently charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
