CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- An off-duty Huntersville police detective who was killed in a car crash on July 5 was drunk at the time, according to a toxicology report.
Kimberly Nesbitt, 43, died when her car ran off Lowrance Road, just south of the city of Catawba. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said. Nesbitt’s blood-alcohol level was .22 when she wrecked, according to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office. North Carolina law considers a driver legally intoxicated with a .08 blood-alcohol level.
Troopers said Nesbitt wasn’t wearing a seat belt when she crashed.
Nesbitt’s crashed car was found at about 6 a.m. on July 5, but investigators don’t know exactly what time the crash happened. They do know that Nesbitt was involved in a minor accident with another driver earlier that morning. In that incident, troopers said Nesbitt exchanged information with the other driver after bumping into the back of the vehicle and then she left.

Pender County | A woman was killed Friday night in a single-car accident near Burgaw, N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. D.L. Cavanaugh said.
A car was driving on Penderlea Highway just before 9 p.m. about two miles north of Burgaw when it went off the road on a curve, overturned and struck a tree, Cavanaugh said.
Starlett Marie Days, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
She was not wearing her seatbelt, and it appeared that speed was a factor, Cavanaugh said.

CLAYTON -- Afternoon commuter traffic has been delayed on Interstate 40 near Clayton while the N.C. Highway Patrol investigates an accident, a dispatcher reported. The patrol has not yet released details about the accident that was about 5:45 p.m. The wreck occurred near the Clayton exit, the spokesman said.

It happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of Woodlawn Road and South Boulevard in South Charlotte.
Police say a taxi and another car collided, but no word on what caused the accident to happened.
It's not known if charges will be filed.

Huntersville Police Officer Killed In Crash
CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- A Huntersville police officer was killed in a crash in Catawba County early Monday morning.
Kimberly Sue Nesbitt, 43, of Mooresville, was killed in the crash on Lowrance Road, according to the Highway Patrol. She was off-duty at the time of the accident, which happened at about 6 a.m.
Lowrance Road is two miles south of the city of Catawba. Troopers said Nesbitt over corrected after her right side wheel went off the road. She crossed over both lanes, went into a ditch and then crashed into a tree, troopers said. They said speed was not a factor in the crash.
"I looked outside and saw the car," Bradley Yount, whose yard Nesbitt crashed into, said. "It was in pretty bad shape."
Nesbitt wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, according to troopers. She died at the scene of the crash.
No one else was in the car during the crash, and no other vehicles were involved.
Nesbitt has worked for the Huntersville Police Department since 2007. She was working as an investigator with the Criminal Investigations Unit at the time of her death.
Trooper Ryan Rudisill responded to the crash and said his heart goes out to her department.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the community in Huntersville," he said.
Troopers said they are waiting for a medical examiner’s toxicology report to determine if alcohol or any other impairing substances were a factor in the crash.
