This past week it is likely that some residents of North Carolina were stunned and saddened to learn of the crash of a bus in another state. The bus accident resulted in the death of at least six people from North Carolina. The occupants of the bus were seniors who were a part of a church group that had visited the neighboring state.
The fatal accident occurred on an interstate in Tennessee and was caused by a blown tire on the bus. This caused the large vehicle, which was transporting a total of 18 individuals, to veer into the path of oncoming traffic. The bus first struck a SUV and then a tractor-trailer. Due to the impact, the truck caught on fire. In addition, it caused the bus to overturn.
The six people who were on the bus who died were not the only ones who were injured in the incident. Two others, the driver of the tractor-trailer and one of three passengers in the SUV, also died. In addition, a total of 14 others involved in the crash were hurt. In fact, all but two occupants of the vehicles went to a hospital for medical attention.
The reason behind the tire on the bus blowing is unknown. It is possible that there was something wrong with it that the bus company should have been aware of. Whether the bus company was at fault will likely be determined in the investigation that is sure to be conducted into the incident.
In situations such as this one it is not uncommon for civil lawsuits to be filed by the injured individuals or the families of those who died. These lawsuits can be complex and time consuming. Accordingly, most find it beneficial to work with a lawyer who regularly handles such cases and understands how they usually work.
