Head-on collision in Raleigh claims lives of both involved

Motor vehicles are a part of the lives of many who reside in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. Because there are so many automobiles on the road each day, each time a driver gets behind the wheel of a car to go somewhere it is possible that they will be involved in a motor vehicle accident. In some cases these crashes result in serious injuries, maybe even death.

There are many things that could lead to a car accident occurring. While sometimes issues with the vehicle or roadway are contributing factors, other times the actions of those who are driving the vehicle are to blame. This appears to have been the case in a fatal crash that occurred earlier this month in Raleigh.

Two vehicles were involved in the early morning crash in the eastbound lane of Interstate 440. Though all vehicles in that lane were supposed to be travelling east, one of them was actually headed in the opposite direction. When the vehicles met, they collided head-on.

The result of the accident was devastating. The 20-year-old woman who was headed east on the road died at the scene. The other driver, a 25-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital where he too succumbed to his injuries.

At this point the reason behind the accident is unclear. In many instances where a vehicle is travelling the wrong way the driver behind the wheel of the vehicle is impaired in some way. Whether impaired driving was a contributing factor in this instance will likely be determined in the course of the investigation that is standard in such cases.
