Fatal crash in North Carolina involves suspected impaired driver

North Carolina residents are likely aware of the deadly combination that occurs when driving, alcohol and drugs are mixed. However, some may be left wondering just what can be done when a loved one is involved in a crash where a drunk or impaired driver is at fault. There are a number of paths that victims can take to pursue compensation and receive some remedy for the tragedies that have been inflicted on them.

North Carolina among worst-driving states, according to list

No matter how you spin it, getting behind the wheel is dangerous business. Car accidents are a leading cause of injury and death in the United States, making it of the utmost importance for drivers to exercise extreme caution on the road.

For North Carolina drivers, intersections are areas wrought with peril. Safely passing through an intersection requires all drivers to stop at stop signs or stop lights, and abide by the law. This does not always happen, unfortunately, and statistics show that intersections have high rates of car accidents.

Rising numbers of fatalities from car accidents

The potential causes of roadway collisions and crashes are almost too numerous to count. Some accidents are attributable to weather or road conditions. Others are due to driver error, negligence and recklessness. And still others relate to the numbers of people on the roadway and how well those roads are designed to handle that amount of traffic. Regardless of the cause, however, car accidents are often traumatic, devastating and costly.

Holiday traffic ends in ten fatalities in North Carolina

It is tragic that due to the increase in traffic over the holiday season, the number of car accidents and fatalities also increases. Weather may play a role in many of these accidents since Thanksgiving often marks the beginning of winter weather like snow, ice, and sleet. In many other accidents, however, driver error or negligence is often the cause. Drivers fall asleep at the wheel during long trips, drivers are distracted by passengers, and drivers engage in dangerous and risky behaviors like speeding or drunk driving. While many of these accidents are relatively minor, fatal accidents are not uncommon.
