Passenger dies in North Carolina head-on collision

Almost no one is ever prepared to deal with the tragedy of losing a loved one in a fatal motor vehicle accident. Only those who have suffered through such a hardship can know how painful it is to suddenly have a family member ripped away. And then, to add further pain, the families of victims are oftentimes left with overwhelming financial challengers. However, when it comes to the financial challenges, there are steps families can take to help alleviate some of this burden.

A recent crash in North Carolina had a tragic outcome. While driving a Ford sedan on a road slick with snow, a motorist crossed the centerline and collided with a Chevrolet head-on. According to police troopers, a passenger in the Chevrolet passed away as a result of the accident. The driver of the Ford sedan faced misdemeanor charges, along with charges of exceeding a safe speed.

When harsh winter conditions are present, even the speed limit may not be considered a safe speed. In fact, bad weather does not ever excuse negligence. Drivers are always expected to exercise the amount of care necessary to prevent an accident. In cases involving winter weather, this may mean driving below the speed limit. Every driver has the legal responsibility to drive safely given the conditions.

If another driver in a fatal car accident is suspected of having failed to exercise the necessary care, it may be appropriate to pursue a wrongful death claim. If successful, a wrongful death claim can help family member fight for compensation to help cover the costs associated with medical expenses, funeral expenses and lost wages.
