North Carolina 18-wheeler involved in fatal crash

by | Mar 7, 2014 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Although most people know intellectually that death is imminent, few think about this most of the time, which can make an actual fatal accident shocking and disturbing when it does occur.

Recently, two people were killed in a wreck that involved an 18-wheeler licensed to a trucking company based in North Carolina. Swing Transport Inc. of Salisbury has sent adjusters to the scene to work with local traffic accident investigators. The accident occurred in Alabama.

According to the Alabama Highway Patrol, a 59-year-old man and 39-year-old woman, both from Huntsville, perished in the fatal accident. A dog in their vehicle was unharmed and taken into custody by animal control officers. The truck driver was not injured.

The most common causes of fatal motor vehicle accidents are drunken driving, reckless driving, driving while distracted, failure to observe traffic regulations and other forms of negligence and recklessness.

All drivers are encouraged to be alert at all times and avoid distractions such as cellphone use and texting. This is especially true for drivers of large vehicles such as long-haul trucks and buses. The size and weight of these vehicles makes them especially dangerous to other motorists on the road.

Anyone who has lost a family member or loved one should consult an attorney who is experienced in handling cases that involve the loss of life. Such an attorney can provide appropriate legal suggestions to families, guide them in seeking compensation for medical expenses and other financial costs and help them receive fair and adequate settlements.

In this particular situation, surviving family members of a victim can ask for compensation from the driver’s insurance as well as the trucking company’s insurance. An attorney can help make sure that the compensation is appropriate to the damages sought.
