A 22-year-old man critically injured in major accident in Durham

Many motorcyclists are killed in accidents every year across the United States, and in the North Carolina area, an even larger number of motorcycle riders are seriously injured due to the warmer weather allowing for motorcyclists to travel in the state much longer than others. Although most accidents result in injuries and damages, in accidents involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, it is usually the motorcyclist who is grievously injured rather than the person driving the car, truck or van.

In a recent motorcycle accident in Durham, a 22-year-old man was critically injured when he collided with a pickup truck that was pulling out of a gas station during the early morning hours. The collision occurred at the corner of Duke Street and Horton Road.

The motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, North Duke Street remained closed for several hours following the accident. The 52-year-old truck driver was not injured in the accident.

Initial police reports suggest that the motorcyclist was riding at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision. However, police investigations haven't determined the actual cause of the accident.

Motorcycle accident investigations often find that it is the driver of the other motor vehicle who is at fault in these incidents. Whether it is the fault of one driver or both, collisions between motorcycles and another vehicle can often result in grave injuries for the motorcycle rider. So it is important for any motorcycle accident victim understand their options. This could mean filing a civil suit in order to recover the costs for their medical expenses, which can be exorbitant, as well as other damages caused by the accident. They could still recover compensation even if they contributed to the collision.

Injuries in a motorcycle accident can be minimized if a person takes precautionary steps like wearing a helmet and other safety gear. However, if a motorcyclist ignores the basic safety precautions, he or she can suffer life-threatening injuries to the head, neck and spine.
