With traffic accidents on the rise in North Carolina, many residents worry when a family member travels. Many pray for the safety of their parents, children or siblings who commute from one location to the other for school, work or other reasons.
While some accidents may be due to poor road conditions or bad weather, others may occur due to the negligence of another driver. These negligent drivers, which occupy many of North Carolina’s roads, may be using their phones or adjusting the radio and may not be concentrating on the road, which can lead to a serious accident. Sometimes, overtired drivers fall asleep behind the wheel, which poses an immediate danger to others on the road.
Recently, a fatal car accident was reported on Steele Creek Road, in Charlotte. According to a resident who lives near the scene, he heard a bang and, after reaching the scene, he saw a mangled mass of vehicles.
Investigators believe that the driver of one of the vehicles fell asleep behind the wheel, and they have ruled out alcohol and speed as factors in the crash. Reports indicate that the 23-year-old was driving on a two lane road when he allegedly fell asleep. He crossed into the path of a woman driving in the opposite direction and collided head-on with her vehicle. The woman was transported to a hospital, where she passed away. The 23-year-old did not receive any serious injuries. According to reports, the 23-year-old has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Though many motorists do everything in their power to avoid accidents, many still happen due to driver negligence. People who lose a loved one must then deal with emotional grief and pain and suffering. Also, managing a family’s finances after this kind of loss can prove devastating. However, a family can seek compensation for their emotional loss, medical and funeral expenses and other economic and noneconomic damages. A family often must investigate the factors that contributed to the accident and try to build a strong case against the negligent driver. This may enable the family to seek out a fair and reasonable compensation for their loss.
