Man seriously hurt in a car-motorcycle crash in North Carolina

According to statistics, motorcyclists in the United States are 35 times more likely to be involved in dangerous accidents than passengers in cars. In most motorcycle accidents, including those in the North Carolina area, a head injury is the leading cause of death. And if adequate precautions such as wearing a helmet are not taken, the rider can also suffer other serious injuries to the neck and spine. Statistics say that wearing a helmet can reduce the possibility of a crash fatality by 37 percent.

According to police reports, a man in Salisbury was seriously injured when a car pulled out in front of his 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at the intersection of Old Concord Road and Jake Alexander Boulevard. The car, a 1998 Nissan, was driven by a 17-year-old girl. The accident occurred on April 22.

The injured man was first taken to the VA Medical Center. Later, a helicopter airlifted him to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The man currently is in critical but stable condition.

It is not always very easy to ascertain who is at fault in a crash involving a motorcycle. Apart from helmets that can prevent injuries, motorcycles offer little in the way of protection from an accident. If someone is a victim of an accident, they may wish to contact an experienced attorney. A legal professional can help the victim seek to recover any medical expenses and loss of wages that often accompany these accidents. Additionally, the legal professional can educate the accident victim regarding his or her rights and the person can learn about all available options in the situation.
