Hit-and-run driver surrenders to police in North Carolina

Residents of Wake County, North Carolina, know that fleeing the scene of a motor accident can have serious consequences, possibly including a prison sentence for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run case. It may also lead to a permanent criminal record.

A person sought by authorities surrendered to Concord police after being involved in a hit-and-run accident recently on Weddington Road. The accident left a motorcyclist critically injured. He told police that he did not stop after the accident because his driving privileges in North Carolina were revoked and he did not want his child, who was with him in the car, to see him arrested by police.

According to police officials, the negligent driver fled the scene of the motorcycle accident after his vehicle struck a stationary motorcycle and a car that were both stopped at an intersection. The motorcyclist, a resident of Raleigh, was seriously injured in the accident and he remained in critical condition at a local nursing home in the aftermath of the accident, according to officials.

The car driver was charged with felony hit-and-run and driving while his license was revoked. Reports stated that he was involved earlier in a case in Columbus County for speeding and driving with a revoked license.

A motorcycle accident victim or surviving family members may have the legal right to seek compensation from the responsible party for medical expenses and loss of wages. Getting the financial compensation can help an injured party deal with both the short-term and long-term effects of an accident.
