Man charged with hit and run in fatal Raleigh pedestrian accident

When an accident involves a motor vehicle and a pedestrian, it usually means bad news for the pedestrian. Even the slightest nudge from a motor vehicle can result in serious or even fatal injuries for a pedestrian.

Recently, a 42-year-old Durham man was charged with felony hit-and-run after his sedan collided with two pedestrians who had left their vehicle to retrieve furniture, which had fallen from their pickup while they were driving on a local interstate in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Police said both the pedestrians were in their truck travelling west when furniture they were carrying fell out of the back of the truckThe accident reportedly occurred after they pulled over to the side of the highway and got out to retrieve the furniture. Police said the other driver swerved to avoid the furniture and hit the pedestrians.

The pedestrians, identified as a 35-year-old male and his passenger, a 23-year-old female, were taken to a local medical facility after the accident. The female subsequently died from catastrophic injuries, while the second victim was being treated for serious injuries.

According to police, the accused left the scene of the accident on foot but was apprehended by responding officers and charged with felony hit-and-run and driving with a revoked license. No other information about the wreck was immediately released. In order to clear the scene of the accident, authorities closed the westbound highway lane for three hours.

In the case of this pedestrian accident, the driver's attempt to escape the scene has deepened the legal implications for him. Situations such as this one also burden the victims' loved ones with a long list of financial agonies to address.

Many times families lost in grief are unaware of their legal options. However, it is important for families to be compensated in times like these for their losses and pain and suffering. North Carolina attorneys can help the injured or grieving families to understand their legal options.
