North Carolina truckers can face higher truck accidents penalties

Commercial vehicles, such as trucks and other large commercial vehicles, which carry large loads in North Carolina, are subject to more stringent laws than other personal vehicles. Commercial vehicles, like trucks, offer their services for a price. With that in mind, in the event of an accident, the trucking company may find itself in the position of being indicted.

Like every driver on the road, truck drivers must follow traffic laws to avoid violations. These include laws like speeding, driving while texting or driving under the influence. Nevertheless, a trucking company is also obliged to follow the rules regarding the number of working hours that a truck driver is allowed to drive or even the timing of driving across various state and interstate highways.

Truck accidents often cause major injuries to the accident victims. Truck accident victims include passengers, as well as drivers of other personal vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles. In some cases of truck accidents, the vehicle will roll over, and the result will be a multiple car accident. The court examines not only the facts surrounding the accident, but also the individual driving records of the truck driver and the trucking company.

One of the most serious penalties that the truck drivers face in truck accidents is that their driving licenses can be suspended or even revoked. The judge will typically look into the previous records of the driver to determine the level of punishment that should be administered.

On the other hand, the severity of the injuries because of the accident also becomes a major factor in determining the consequences. In some cases where the truck accident victim has died or suffered serious injuries, the truck driver may even be ordered to spend time in prison.

John M McCabe, P.A., has a great deal of experience with these types of cases. This experience includes where victims were devastated by injuries in the wake of a truck accident.
