Truck accident with motorcycle kills two, injures several

| Aug 6, 2015 | Truck Accidents

It probably goes without saying, the consequences of a North Carolina truck accident can be devastating for the occupants of the smaller vehicle that was involved in the accident. The situation is worse for the victim, if the smaller vehicle was as small and as lightweight as a motorcycle. A recent incident that occurred approximately one hour west of Raleigh, North Carolina, proves just that.

According to news reports, the tractor-trailer crash that occurred in Greensboro, North Carolina, claimed the life of two motorcyclists and injured several others. Reports stated that the incident occurred when the tractor-trailer crashed into a group of motorcyclists, while they were parked on the shoulder of Interstate 85, attending to a mechanical issue in one of the riders’ motorcycles.

Apparently, the driver of the tractor-trailer fell asleep behind the wheel. This caused him to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the tractor-trailer, which was traveling in the center lane, swerved to the edge of the highway and collided with the group of stationary motorcyclists. As a result of this accident, police charged the driver with a felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor death.

As many Wake County residents may be aware, truck driver fatigue is one of the major reasons behind truck accidents. It is for that reason that federal and state regulations prohibit a driver from operating a large truck after a certain amount of consecutive hours without adequate rest. In fact, an earlier blog post discussed driver fatigue and other causes of truck accidents in detail. Nonetheless, truck accidents are a sad reality. Many people are injured or killed every year not only in North Carolina, but also across the entire United States.

Fortunately, victims of truck accidents, or the family members of deceased victims, can seek legal recourse after the accident. Such legal proceedings are often complicated, and the pressures may be overwhelming for the accident victim or the victim’s family. Therefore, it may be a wise decision to retain an experienced personal injury attorney who can protect the rights of the victim and obtain compensation on the victim’s behalf.
