Impaired driving may have caused fatal Raleigh accident

On Behalf of | Nov 17, 2016 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Police have recently suggested that a fatal accident that happened in the downtown Raleigh area may have involved drugs or alcohol. Specifically, police think a young man from the Raleigh area was operating under the influence when he drove his SUV through an intersection and struck another vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle the young man struck died at the scene of the accident.

According to a police accident report that recently became publicly available, the young man disregarded a red light and was driving 10 miles over the speed limit. The young man suffered a significant injury in the crash and had to be transported to the hospital.

According to police, law enforcement intended also to have blood tests taken at the hospital which would help them confirm whether the young man was under the influence when driving. The results of the blood test are not public, and no criminal charges have been filed.

Even though there is more important information about this accident that is still forthcoming, it still serves as an important reminder to residents of the Raleigh area, including those in Cary, North Carolina, of the dangers of impaired driving. It is sad that despite so many advertising campaigns and law enforcement efforts, many people still choose to put others at risk and get behind the wheel of a vehicle while drunk or buzzed.

The family of the man who died are no doubt grieving his loss and likely just trying to put the basics of their lives back together. However, depending on the outcome of the police’s investigation, they may want to consider filing a wrongful death action in order to obtain financial compensation for their loss.
