Law enforcement cracking down on drunk driving this holiday week

Many North Carolina families have been affected by drunk driving. Driving after drinking is a mistake that cost thousands of lives each year. These accidents are completely preventable and only happen because a driver makes the mistake of driving after they have been drinking.

State law enforcement officials are warning North Carolina residents to avoid drinking or driving over this 4th of July holiday week or suffer the consequences. Law enforcement is increasing DWI patrols in a campaign called "Operation Firecracker". Last year this campaign resulted in over 1,700 drunk driving charges. But, unfortunately 13 people died in drunk driving crashes in North Carolina during last year's 4th of July season. The 4th of July is a popular time for parties, BBQs, family gatherings and other events that typically involve alcohol. North Carolina law enforcement is hoping residents look for safe ways to get home and don't drive after they have been drinking.

Impaired driving is still a major problem in North Carolina and across the United States. Drivers who choose to drive after they have been drinking put their lives and the lives of others at risk. If a person has been affected by a drunk driver, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in personal injury. An attorney can investigate what caused the accident and help determine who is at fault. They can help the victim and their family recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages.

No one expects that they will be involved in an accident with an impaired driver. Unfortunately, thousands of families suffer from this traumatic event each year. It is important to hold negligent parties responsible so that they don't harm anyone else.
