Three-vehicle crash near Zebulon injures four people

A recent three-vehicle crash near Zebulon, N.C., has injured four people and raised the possibility that the driver who caused the accident was incapacitated by a medical condition. The exact sequence of events in the three-car accident is not entirely clear, but the statements of witnesses have given police enough significant information that they have been able to untangle the chronology of the accident.

A motorist who was not involved in the accident told a television reporter that a Toyota Camry appeared to be speeding and driving erratically. Just as the witness slowed her vehicle, the Toyota veered into a pickup truck, forcing the truck to roll down an embankment and into the ditch. The Camry then collided with a Kia SUV, causing it to leave the road and slide into a shallow creek. The SUV was occupied by a woman and her young son.

Another witness spoke briefly with the Camry driver as he was being carried from the scene on a stretcher. The man said that he was sorry for causing the accident, and the witness scolded him for drinking because she had seen him throw three beer cans from his car. Police, on the other hand, said that the Camry driver was not drunk but had lost consciousness from a medical condition. The state police blamed the driver for causing the accident and charged him with driving left of center, littering and having improper tires.

Further investigation will be necessary to determine the exact cause of the crash and which, if any, of the drivers is legally liable for the injuries suffered by the victims of the accident. Anyone who has been injured or lost a loved one in a multi-vehicle accident may wish to consult an experienced accident attorney for an evaluation of the facts of the case and the law that will govern its outcome. A knowledgeable attorney may also be able to provide an estimate of the chances of recovering damages.
