Distracted driving still a real problem in North Carolina

Cary drivers understand that safe driving is important for everyone on the roads. When drivers understand how important safety is, they can help ensure that car accidents become a thing of the past. Unfortunately, distracted driving is still a concern on North Carolina roads.

Distracted driving is anything that takes a driver's attention away from driving. It can include eating, putting on makeup, changing the radio station, and the most common one, cell phone use. Texting, navigating, and surfing the internet are major causes for distracted driving. Although a driver may think that they can take their eyes off the road for a few seconds to read or respond to a text, their lives and the lives of others can change in a split second.

In the United States, distracted driving was responsible for more than 3,400 traffic fatalities in 2015 alone. Families never expect their loved one to be involved in a serious accident and especially one caused by a distracted driver. But, this situation is becoming all too common in North Carolina.

Families who are affected by a serious accident through no fault of their own may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in personal injury. An attorney can review the circumstances surrounding the accident and find out what happened. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.

Drivers need to understand how dangerous distracted driving can be. Safety should be the number one priority for all drivers. When a driver makes an unsafe decision, the victim has legal rights.
