Car hits student walking to school

Nothing is more important than the safety of our children. Many kids in the Cary area walk or bike to and from school each day. It is very important that motorists observe pedestrians in the crosswalk and near the road at all times in order to avoid a serious accident.

A high school student was recently hit by a car when he was crossing Humie Olive Road at the intersection of Evans Road. The student was in the crosswalk at the time when the car hit him. He was taken to a nearby hospital for his injuries. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Neighbors say they have had concerns about this crosswalk for years. The parents would like the crosswalk to have flashing lights, a crossing guard or a pedestrian tunnel to ensure the safety of students.

Nothing is more scary to parents than the thought of their children being injured. No one expects their child will be injured on the way to school, but, when drivers are not aware of their surroundings, this can easily happen. If a family is facing a situation where their loved one was hit by a negligent driver, they may want to speak with a legal professional skilled in personal injury. An attorney can visit the car accident scene and interview witnesses, review police reports and find out what happened to cause the tragic accident. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

Pedestrian accidents are a concern in the Cary area. Drivers need to slow down and be aware of their surroundings, especially in school zones.
