Fatigued truck drivers major problem on North Carolina roads

North Carolina drivers share the road with many different types of vehicles. Semi-trucks are a major part of our roadways. Due to their size, any accident that involves tractor-trailers can cause serious injuries and even death.

Truck driver fatigue is a major cause of truck accidents on North Carolina roadways. Although the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has multiple rules and regulations that affect truck driver fatigue and hours a trucker can drive, there are still thousands of violations reported each year. Truck driver fatigue can be caused by truck drivers driving for too long without taking a break. Truck drivers are under tremendous pressure to deliver their loads in a short amount of time, and drivers sometimes skip taking a break in order to get their loads delivered. Drivers may also extend their driving time to avoid rush hour traffic or push to get home for the weekend.

Regardless of the reasons why a truck driver is fatigued, the results can be deadly. Tractor-trailers weigh thousands of pounds more than a car or SUV and can cause very serious accidents. A family who has been affected by a truck accident may want to speak with an attorney who specializes in personal injury. An attorney can visit the accident scene and review police reports to help determine what happened. If the accident was caused by the negligence of another driver, an attorney can hold the negligent party responsible. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.

No one expects their loved one to be the victim of a serious truck accident, but these accidents can occur in seconds. If a person was hurt through no fault of their own, they may be eligible for compensation.
