Police reports and accidents

When a person is involved in an accident, there is often a police report created. This report offers valuable information about the accident. A person who has been involved in an accident may find it helpful to obtain a copy of the police report.

To obtain a police report, a person should call the police station that responded to the accident and request it. The report will either be mailed or can be picked up. The police report is an important piece of evidence in an injury case. The report includes specific details of the accident, including place, time, date and weather conditions. It also includes an officer's observations of who was at fault. It can say if a driver violated a motor vehicle code or was careless. A police report can also include a list of witnesses and their contact information. That can be important for a personal injury case. If there are errors on a police report, those can be addressed as well.

No one expects to be involved in a serious car accident. Unfortunately, these events affect hundreds of families in North Carolina each year. These accidents are often the result of a negligent driver. When a driver does not drive carefully, they risk the lives of everyone they meet on the road. A serious car accident can affect a family forever. There are often enormous medical bills and emotional trauma to go through. A legal professional who is skilled in personal injury can help their client with their case. They can help a family determine what happened to cause the accident. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and other damages.

There is nothing to prepare a family for an unexpected accident. When the accident was caused by a negligent driver, a victim has legal rights.
