Teenage drivers who have been drinking can be dangerous

Teenage drivers have a reputation for being bad drivers. Some teenage drivers may not have the maturity level to handle the experience necessary to safely drive a car. Teenagers may make decisions that are not the best when it comes to driving, including texting while driving and even driving after they have been drinking, and it can lead to a car accident.

Anyone who has engaged in driving after drinking is engaging in risky behavior. Drunk driving is a major problem in North Carolina, but teenage drunk drivers can be even more dangerous. Teenagers do not have a lot of experience driving and they also don't have a lot of experience drinking. This combination leads to statistics in which drivers ages 16-20 with blood alcohol content levels of less than .079 are 12 times more likely to die in a car crash. BAC levels of .08-.099 are 32 times more likely to die in a crash. Even a small amount of alcohol can lead to very serious consequences.

No family ever expects their loved one will be involved in a serious car accident. But, unfortunately, these accidents affect many North Carolina residents every year. Teenage drivers can be especially dangerous on the roads. If a person finds themselves a victim of a negligent driver, they may want to speak with a legal professional skilled in personal injury. An attorney can visit the accident scene and interview witnesses, review police reports and get answers for the family as to what happened to cause the accident. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering, funeral expenses and other damages.

Teenage drivers need to understand the importance of safe driving. When their negligent behavior seriously injures an innocent person, it is important to hold them responsible.
