No one ever expects a loved one to be the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Although these accidents are rare, they can be hard to solve because the negligent party leaves the scene and there are oftentimes no witnesses. Durham authorities are trying to solve some open hit-and-run fatal car accident cases by offering a reward for any tips leading to an arrest.
The Durham Police Department has announced that Crime Stoppers is offering a reward to those who are able to offer information regarding six unsolved hit-and-run cases. Five of the cases were fatal. One involved a pedestrian who was killed while crossing North Duke Street. Another involved a pedestrian who was killed while walking on North Hyde Park Avenue. The third was a bicyclist who died riding his bike home from work on Garrett Road. Another man was critically injured while crossing Holloway Street and the fifth death was a man who was hit on his bicycle on Angier Avenue.
These hit-and-run accidents affected several Durham area families. Families were left without their loved ones or were faced with a loved one who now has serious medical conditions. These loved ones were the family’s breadwinners, mothers and children. These families are now facing unexpected financial turmoil, including funeral expenses and medical expenses. A legal professional who is skilled in personal injury law may be able to help a family who has a loved one who was seriously injured or killed in a motor vehicle accident. They can visit the accident scene and interview witnesses, review the police report and help determine what happened to cause the accident. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.
A fatal car accident deeply affects a family, not only emotionally, but financially as well. It is important to hold negligent parties responsible for their mistakes so that they don’t harm anyone else.
