Electric are fun, but are they safe?

Electric scooters have been popping up on street corners all over North Carolina. They are quickly becoming a fun and accessible way to get around town. But, with their ease of use and entertainment value, they can be dangerous and result in serious injuries.

Electric scooters have exploded in popularity this past year. Companies, such as Bird and Lime, have entered markets in North Carolina and across the United States. But, these scooters have also brought many injuries and even two deaths so far.

Accidents occur from people falling off the scooters, getting hit by a car, etc. Injuries are sometimes the result of the operator's error, but there are also scooter malfunctions that are occurring.

The scooters can go up to 15 miles per hour, which is pretty fast for a vehicle with no protection. There are reports of the brakes not working and the throttles sticking, which can definitely affect how safely a scooter can operate. Some argue that the scooter companies are not doing enough to maintain the scooters and make sure riders are safe.

People choose to ride scooters because they are a fun way to get around town. They never expect that the scooters will malfunction or an accident will occur when they are on them. Even a small accident can be serious for a scooter rider because of the lack of protection a scooter gives to its riders.

If a person has been injured while riding a scooter they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in personal injury. An attorney can help the victim find out what happened to cause the injury and hold the negligent party responsible. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.
