How to handle sun glare when driving this summer

There's no denying that most people would rather drive in sunny conditions than rain, snow, sleet or some other type of inclement weather.

However, just because driving conditions appear perfect doesn't necessarily mean that's the case. You could soon find that sun glare is making it difficult to see the road ahead and the traffic around you.

Here are some tips for better dealing with sun glare when driving this summer:

  • Prepare for it: Sun glare can be a problem at any time of the day, but it's typically worst during the late afternoon and early morning hours.
  • Invest in a pair of good sunglasses: Ditch those shades that you bought at Target and upgrade to a pair with polarized lenses. These are designed to eliminate sun glare, which improves your ability to see.
  • Leave more space: Since your visibility is somewhat limited, it's important to slow down and leave more following space between other vehicles.
  • Keep a clean windshield: It's difficult enough to drive when the sun is glaring in your eyes. If your windshield is dirty, it can amplify the reflection, thus causing even more trouble.

By following these tips, you'll feel better about your ability to maintain your safety when dealing with sun glare.

Unfortunately, other drivers may not take as much caution but instead will squint their eyes and hope for the best.

If a negligent driver causes an accident, call 911, receive medical treatment and then review your insurance policy. This will lead you to file an insurance claim and consider other ways to obtain compensation for your injuries and property damage.
