When a driver isn’t obeying the speed limit and isn’t driving safely, it’s more than fair for a family who has lost their loved ones to pursue a lawsuit or claim against them. Distractions, negligence and reckless behaviors put everyone on the roads at risk.
Take, for example, this case that took place on Interstate 485. A driver caused a multivehicle collision that resulted in the deaths of four people in one vehicle by striking a box truck.
After hitting the box truck, the vehicle drove across the median and into oncoming traffic on the I-485 inner loop. Then, the box truck hit two others vehicles.
One person in a second vehicle was killed, while the four people killed in the first vehicle were all related. A trooper was taken the Carolinas Medical Center after being hit while investigating the collision as well.
The report indicated that the vehicle that caused the collision was traveling at over 100 mph at the time of the crash. The driver is currently in the hospital but is expected to be charged upon release.
Cases like this one are a true tragedy because an entire family passed away and another family’s loved one passed away as well. It’s sad to know that this kind of crash could have been avoided, since slowing down alone may have been enough to reduce the severity of the collision.
As someone who is traveling on busy highways and local roads, you should be aware of those who speed and take strides to avoid them on the roads. They’re acting recklessly and could cause serious collisions.
